Course Requirements
Required Reading
Attendance:

Attendance at all lectures is required; daily lecture outlines and lists of key words will be made available before lecture on the course web-site.

Attendance at your assigned discussion sections is required; your section leader has the prerogative of requesting reasonable additional weekly assignments, such as study questions or quizzes.

Examinations:

A Midterm examination will be given on Thursday, March 4,
in class. It will consist of an "objective" quiz section (Ids, chronologies, maps), as well as essay questions based upon reading, discussion and lecture material.
A Final examination will be given on Friday,
May 14, 12:30-3:30 pm. It will consist of an "objective" quiz section as well as two essay questions based upon reading, discussion and lecture material.

Written Exercises:

A short map assignment will be due on Friday,
January 30 at 4 pm in the History Department Office (3229 Dwinelle).
Two short papers on topics to be assigned in advance:
- Paper #1 (3-5 pages, typed, double-spaced) is due
Friday, February 13 at 4 pm in the History Department Office, 3229 Dwinelle.
- Paper #2 (3-5 pages, typed, double-spaced) is due
Friday, April 16, at 4 pm in the History Department Office, 3229 Dwinelle.

Grading:

Your final grade, to be determined by your section leader, will be based upon the following approximate percentages:
- map assignment (5%)
- section attendance and participation (15%)
- midterm (20%) and final (30%)
- written exercises (30%)
