A survey of trends and forces in the making of Europe from 1914 to the present. The course stresses the interaction of political, economic and socio-cultural changes and explores the relationship between domestic and international politics. Topics include the world wars, the rise and fall of fascism and communism, imperialism , decolonization, European unity, the cultural revolution of the 1960s, and challenges for 21st century Europe. Assigned material includes novels and movies. Requirements : lectures, sections, assigned reading and film viewings
