TUDOR-STUART BRITAIN 1485-1660
The history of Britain, albeit with primary emphasis on England, from the advent of the Tudors through the revolutions of the mid-17C. Principal concentration on political, religious, and social developments. No prerequisites other than some sense of general European history in the age of the Reformation.

LECTURES: Tues. & Thur., 0930-1100, in 88 Dwinelle, 4 units.
OFFICE HOURS: Tues. & Thur., 1100-1200, in 3314 Dwinelle; Tues. 1500-1600 in 454 Boalt.
Reader's hours to be announced.

REQUIREMENTS: Assiduous attendance at lectures; this course cannot be passed by examination alone. One short paper (maximum 10pp. 2x-spaced), original, provocative, bold, etc., essay--NOT a research paper--on a topic to be assigned, due on THURSDAY 2 NOVEMBER (40% of course grade). Final examination, three-hours essay-type, exam group 7, on Friday 15 Dec., 0800-1100: do not request a different time (60% of course grade). L&S rules on incompletes enforced.
