History 5: Europe Since 1500

 

Attendance at and participation in discussion sections is required.  Students with more than two unexcused absences will not pass the course.  Students are also required to complete all reading assignments in a timely manner. 

 

In addition, there are also five written requirements for History 5: 

 

            1)  A take-home map exercise, due in Section the week of September 13:

2)    A 5-7 page paper, based upon an assigned topic.  This paper is due in section the week of September  28;

3)      A 5-7 page paper, based upon an assigned topic.  This paper is due in section the week of November 16;

4)      A midterm exam, which will take place in class on Thursday, October 14;

5)      A final exam (Exam Group 19), which will take place on Tuesday December 21, 12:30-3:30 PM, at a location to be announced. 

 

You will receive further instructions on each of these assignments during the semester. 

 

Each assignment will carry the following weight in determining your grade for the class: 

 

            -Section Participation (including small written assignments)                     20%

            -First Paper                                                                                          20%

            -Midterm Examination                                                                          15%

            -Second Paper                                                                                     20%

            -Final Examination                                                                                25%
