James Lin

Research Interests:

I am a historian of 20th Century China, the US, and the world. Using Chinese, French, Vietnamese, and English language documents from archives across five countries, my dissertation examines how development practitioners envisioned bringing agrarian societies and states into modernity, and how those ideas and practices of agricultural and rural development changed as they were disseminated from the US into China and Taiwan, and from Taiwan to the rest of the developing world.
