Current Title: PhD student at the Department of History, LMU Munich, Germany

I am currently working on my PhD-thesis on the history of hunger strikes from the late 19th century until the 1940s. From a transnational perspective, the thesis focuses on how imprisonment, fasting, and protesting shaped the self-perception of hunger strikers. It analyzes the political and ethical debates which were provoked by the refusal of food and the force-feeding of hunger strikers. My research stay at UC Berkeley will give me the opportunity to focus on key case studies within the United States.
