Zoe Griffith received her PhD in History from Brown University. Her dissertation examined the intersections of trade and Ottoman imperial governance in Egypt's Mediterranean port cities between 1750-1820. For five of the past 10 years, she has been living between Cairo, Egypt and Istanbul, Turkey. Her wider research interests include political economy, material culture and commodity studies, gender and family history, and early modern state-building. She is also particularly interested in how contemporary politics shape the study and reception of Middle East history.
