Adrian North

PhD Candidate

South Asia

I am a second year PhD student studying modern South Asian history. I specialize in post-1857 British imperialism across South Asia.  I have previously worked on how local persons interacted with the colonial state in episodes of knowledge production and intelligence gathering along British India's Northwest Frontiers during the late nineteenth century. Currently I am working on a project focusing on South Asian migration to Britain during the 1920s and 30s and examining the social lives and relations with the British state of these migrant communities in interwar London. I gained my B.A. in History from the University of Colorado in 2020 before beginning the PhD program here at Berkeley in August 2020.
