Requests for exceptions to degree requirements and departmental policy. (Consult with field advisor.)

Pre-submission tips and consultation:

  • Before submission, please connect with your primary faculty advisor to discuss your plan and obtain their written approval. Please do this ahead of time, as the petition form will ask you to upload documentation of their approval with your submission.
  • Please review the instructions on the form carefully. You may use this form to request any of the following:
    • Enrollment in History 299 with a specific member of the History faculty (Independent Study units)
    • Fulfillment of the History 285 requirement through a History 280 course
    • Fulfillment of a degree requirement through enrollment in a History 299 course
    • Fulfillment of a language requirement through enrollment in a History 280, 285, or 299 course

Post- Submission:
The Head Graduate Advisor (HGA) and the Graduate Student Affairs Officer (GSAO) will respond to your request within 8-10 business days.

This form is to petition to alter the graduate program or funding structure.

Pre-submission tips and consultation:

  • Please submit this form after consulting with the Graduate Student Affairs Officer. Schedule a 15-minute advising appointment.

  • This petition is to alter the graduate program or funding structure. Please review the Petition to Alter Program Structure and Funding Exception form in its entirety.

  • Please review relevant field structures in pages 32 and 33 of the program guide and the Altering Program Structure section. 

  • Please review the instructions on the form carefully.

  • Please submit no longer than a 1-page description of your petition.

  • All requests require faculty support; please be sure to consult with your primary faculty advisor ahead of a submission. 

  • Please secure your faculty support in writing. The form will guide you on where to submit faculty support documentation. 

  • Please provide time-stamped documentation if the context is relevant. 

  • Please be sure to redact sensitive information from documentation. 

Post- Submission:

  • The review committee will answer your request within an 8-10 business day period, and may request additional information and documentation

Use this form when attempting to be employed as a student assistant and graduate student researcher title. Note that this is the second step in a four-step process, and work is not allowed to commence until the final step of hiring paperwork has been confirmed.
