COCI Checklist for Syllabus Development

A useful set of best practices for syllabus development, whether you’re submitting the syllabus to COCI for course approval or not.

Course Capture

Berkeley's Course Capture system records lectures and accompanying slides and is available in 98% of the General Assignment classrooms (not in the History seminar rooms). Instructors must opt-in to Course Capture. Recordings are automatically added to the bCourses site for the class, and instructors can control who has access to them, and for how long.

Designing Your Course

Focus course planning around clear learning objectives, instructors can have a better sense of how students should demonstrate their learning, and then consider what day-to-day experiences may best support students’ learning.

CalCentral

UC Berkeley instructors (including faculty, lecturers, GSIs and other instructor titles) are able to manage key aspects of their classes through CalCentral. CalCentral offers a streamlined way for instructors to review class information, manage rosters, support enrollments, and submit final grading. This system provides near real-time updates to rosters and waitlists, and improved data for classes and program planning.
