Amar Zaidi

PhD Student

South Asia

I am a PhD student in the Department of History, and I specialize in the history of early modern South Asia (1550-1800). For my doctoral research I focus on Islam and Islamic life in the city of Lahore from 1600-1800.

More broadly, I am interested in the history of inter-religious interactions, the relationship between religion and the state, and in questions of language and identity.

Before coming to Berkeley, I completed a BA at Columbia University and a Masters at the University of Oxford.
