Departmental Events

In addition to the many history lectures, seminars, and workshops listed on the Berkeley Events Calendar, the Department of History hosts the following events that are catered to students, faculty, and friends of the Department.

History Colloquia | Fall & Spring Semesters

The Department of History hosts two to three colloquia each fall and spring semester featuring recent work by current faculty members, emeriti, or doctoral candidates. Although these colloquia are aimed toward members of the Department, outside students and faculty are welcome to attend. Papers are generally circulated 2–3 weeks prior to each colloquium. History Homecoming, the Department's annual event for alumni and friends, features a faculty panel on a historical theme followed by a catered reception. Past panels have featured such themes as elections, the historical significance of rivers, and letters as primary sources.

Cal Day | April

Cal Day, UC Berkeley's annual open house, features hundreds of events across campus. The Department of History hosts an info session for prospective majors (Don't Know Much About History?) and a faculty panel on a rotating theme.

The 101 Circus | May 8, 2019

The 101 Circus is the Department's undergraduate research showcase, when history majors have an opportunity to present their capstone projects and answer questions about the research process. Topics cover a wide range of geographic and chronological fields, so there's something for everyone to enjoy.
