Miles Culpepper

Graduate Student

Latin America

I am a historian of international relations in the Western Hemisphere, with a specialization in Cold War Latin America. I am currently researching a dissertation on Guatemalan exiles from the collapse of Jacobo Arbenz's social democratic government in 1954 to the end of the civil war in 1996. The project examines how refugees navigated the Cold War interstate system in North America, as well as how policymakers in the United States, Mexico, and Guatemala attempted to exert influence over the flow of people across borders in the face of competing domestic interest groups, transnational advocacy networks, and NGOs.
