Daniel Robert is a historian of political economy. His book project, entitled "Courteous Capitalism," reveals how utility firms in the early twentieth century defended their monopolies against agitation for public ownership by offering courteous customer service and deploying other public relations strategies. In addition to the intersections of the history of capitalism and emotional history, Professor Robert is also interested in the history of science and technology.
