Kyle Jackson is a transnational historian of the Americas. His research looks at early U.S.-Latin-American relations through the prism of New Orleans. His dissertation project explores how, over the course of the long nineteenth century, boosters and businessmen in the South’s leading port attempted to capitalize on the city’s myriad personal and commercial connections around the Gulf of Mexico and the United States’ growing economic and military influence in the region. Originally from Oakland, CA, he received his B.A. in history from UCLA in 2012. He is currently a PhD candidate in the Department of History at UC Berkeley.
