Stephanie Jones-Rogers Awarded the 2023 Dan David Prize

February 28, 2023

Stephanie Jones-Rogers is one of nine scholars to receive the 2023 Dan David Prize, the largest history prize in the world. Dubbed the “MacArthur-style ‘genius grant’ for history,” the Dan David Prize awards up to nine prizes of $300,000 each year to outstanding early and mid-career scholars and practitioners in the historical disciplines. The Prize is given in recognition of the winners’ contribution to the study of the past and to support their future endeavors.

The selection committee praised Jones-Rogers for "using slave narratives in new and sophisticated ways, which not only serve to challenge existing historical views, but also to open up a new set of questions for all fields in which oral histories are used."
